Governance

The residential community of University of Hong Kong is governed by a comprehensive structure that ensures the welfare and well-being of its students. This governance framework is outlined in the University's Statute XXIII, which grants the Senate the authority to determine the policies and conditions for student accommodation.

The Committee on Student Affairs plays a crucial role in this governance structure, acting on behalf of the Senate in matters related to student welfare and facilities. This committee works through several sub-committees, including the Committee on Halls, which advises on all aspects of student residence and welfare in residential and non-residential halls.

The Committee on Halls has been expanded over time to include representation from all residential and non-residential halls, ensuring a diverse and inclusive approach to decision-making. Additionally, the Wardens of the various halls meet regularly to discuss administrative and policy issues, with a select group of Wardens serving as liaisons with the Dean of Student Affairs.

Furthermore, the Governance Committee of the Residential Colleges on Lung Wah Street, a sub-committee of the Committee on Student Affairs, oversees the Colleges and formulates policies governing their operations, which are then approved by the Committee on Student Affairs.

This comprehensive governance structure demonstrates the University's commitment to fostering a vibrant and supportive residential community, where the needs and concerns of students are at the forefront of the decision-making process.
